Ottawa Winterlude!
Winterlude is Ottawa’s annual winter festival that includes many festivities for all ages. This year it will be held from February 3-20, 2012. The festival showcases Ottawa’s culture as well as the unique winter experience that Ottawa has to offer.
Some of the most popular festivities are as follows:
- Skating on the Rideau Canal, the world’s largest skating rink
- A Triathlon that includes skating, cross country skiing and running
- Ice-Carving
- Annual Bed Race
- Snowflake Kingdom
- And so much more!
The activities are endless and the best part is that all the activities are FREE!
Family day:
Winterlude includes a cornucopia of festivities for all ages. This family day, spend time with your family downtown Ottawa, celebrating winter and making lasting memories.
Some great ideas for family day weekend are as follows:
- Family Day @ the NAC , which offers many hands on activities including games, workshops, stories, homemade treats and interactive displays. (February 20, 2012 noon to 4 p.m.)
- Cool Science Saturdays @ the Canadian Science and Technology Museum, which offers workshops, science experiments, and fun for the whole family. (February 18, 2012 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
- Rogers Public Ice Carving Contest @ Confederation Park, which offers a chance for the public to show off their ice sculpting skills. (February 18, 2012 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
- Young Sculptors at Work @ Confederation Park, which offers a chance for kids to sculpt ice, with the assistance of a professional ice carver. Safety goggles and tools will be provided. (February 19, 2012 10:30 a.m. to noon (8-12 yrs.) and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (13-17 yrs.)

Canadian Museum of Civilization This museum showcases the human history of Canada and the cultural diversity of its people. There are also many special exhibits and special events, and is also home to Ottawa's IMAX theatre.
Canadian Museum of Nature Kids will probably know this one best as the "dinosaur museum" for its gallery of dinosaur skeletons. But there's more, for kids of all ages: From valuable minerals and fossils hidden beneath our feet to the trees that make the oxygen we breathe, from Arctic plants to zebra mussels and everything in between.
Canadian Museum of Science & Technology A world-class collection that celebrates Canadian scientific and technical innovations. There are lots of hands-on activities for kids, including buttons to press and science demonstrations.
National Gallery of Canada One of the world's most respected art institutions, renowned for its exceptional collections, revered for its scholarship, and applauded for its unique ability to engage audiences of all ages and all levels of artistic knowledge.
Canadian War Museum Located in a spectacular new building on Lebreton Flats, the museum presents Canada's military past and how it shaped the country. Its outstanding exhibitions explain Canada s rich military history from earliest times to the present, featuring the experiences of people on the battlefields and at home.
